Curriculum Description:

2009-2010:

  • Timeline of the Old Testament: (Sunday mornings in the fall)
    This class will be focused on the major transitions of God's people in the Old Testament books. The goal is that every teen will be able to give a basic chronological timeline of Old Testament events and be able to understand why those events are important to Israel and to Christians today.

  • Old Testament Miracles & Theophanies: (Wednesday nights in the fall)
    This series will look at how God has chosen to reveal himself in the OT and how God uses messengers and His people to spread His teaching and carry out His will. Students will learn about the complexity of God while studing His revelation through theophany.

  • Traditions: (Sunday mornings in the winter)
    This class series will take a look at cultural and religious traditions that we as Christians engage in. The focus will be understanding how traditions developed and what their original intent has been.

  • Old Testament Books: (Wednesday nights in the winter)
    This series will be focused on giving the overviews of all the OT books--who we think wrote them, what is the major story, and why they are important to us today.

  • David's Story: (Sunday mornings in the spring)
    This class series will focus on the life of one of Israel's most influential Kings. God calls David a man after His own heart. Yet, his story (1 & 2 Samuel) is one of deceit, murder, and mistakes. Why does this story captivate so many and how does this story show the heart of who God is?

  • Spiritual Disciplines (Wednesday nights in the spring)
    This class series will explore many of the spiritual disciplines that Christians have engaged in throughout the centuries. The focus will be on learning those practices a s a tool for teens to help them refocus in their lives.

  • Intern's Choice: (Sunday mornings in the summer)
    Every summer, the youth ministry hires two interns and will ask both of them to be involved in the formal curriculum process. This class series will be led and taught by them from a predetermined pool of topics: (Judges, Parables, Pastoral Epistles, Prophecy, New Testament Miracles and the Sermon on the Mount).

  • Worship Development: (Wednesday nights in the summer)
    This class will be the platform for the Worship Planning class. Teens in the Ministers and Disciples class will come and participate in corporate worship services prepared by the Apostle's class.


2010-2011:

  • Timeline of the New Testament: (Sunday mornings in the fall)
    This class will focus on the major events of the NT--from the birth of Christ throught the birth of the church and on to John's revelation. The goal is that every teen will be able to give a basic chronological timeline of the NT events and be able to understand why they are important to Christians today.

  • New Testament Miracles and Theophanies (Wednesday nights in the fall)
    This class series will seek to deepen the teens understanding of what it means to be human. THe class will study Christ by looking at Him as fully in God's image (Imago Dei) and fully flesh (Nephesh Kijah). The class will also explore how Christ has modeled this relationship for humanity.

  • Catechesis (Sunday mornings in the winter)
    This series will look at the religious traditions of the Church of Christ, how they developed and how they are at work in governing our chrch today.

  • New Testament Books (Wednesday nights in the winter)
    This series will be focused on giving the overviews of all the NT books--who we think wrote them, what the major stories are within them and why they are important to us today.

  • Paul's Story--2nd half of Acts and Epistles (Sunday mornings in the spring)
    The series will focus on the most influential story teller and writer of all time. A man who murdered Christians but was converted and used by God to do great works that still influence our lives today.

  • Fruit of the Spirit (Wednesday nights in the spring) The class series will break down the fruits of the spirit and help create a distance between commonly used terms and the spiritual concepts behind the terms as they were originally meant in the Bible.  The goal is that teens, through their understanding of biblical concepts, will find that following Christ will produce unfathomable joy, peace that surpasses all understanding, and a love that can only be known by knowing God.

  • Sex and Dating (Wednesday nights in the summer)
    This course will be an in-depth look at sexuality and its theological intent. Teens will not just learn to remain abstinent until marriage, but they will be taught what sex is and how it serves God's purposes of revealing Himself to us.
