Curriculum Description: 2009-2010 - Church History (Sunday mornings in the fall)
This series of classes hopes to provide a better understanding of the history and development of the church up through the Restoration Movement.
- Problems (Wednesday nights in the fall)
This course will expose the unanswered questions that we, as humans, have about God and who He is and how He relates with both the spiritual world and the visible world. Furthermore, this class will discuss problems like: the mind and body problem, the problem of evil, and the problem between the Bible and the sciences.
- Spiritual Gifts (Sunday mornins in the winter)
This series is designed to help uncover the gifts of each of the class' participants and of the group as a whole. We will look at the possible uses of those gifts and help the teens explore congregational and extra-congregational uses of those gifts.
- Poetry (Wednesday nights in the winter)
This class will be dedicated to looking through the Psalms and Songs of Solomon to help understand the differences in the poets' writing and what those writings mean for us today.
- Spiritual Autobiography (Sunday morning in the spring)
The second greatest story ever told is the one of Christ's transformation in your life. How does the scripture influence your thinking? How does Christs's life influence the way you see others? How does your past influence the way you view those around you, and how does your past control your life?
- Counseling: Active Listening and Theological Reflection (Wednesday nights in the spring)As Christians, we are often called upon during difficult times, especially when there is death. As the world seeks hope and healing through the listening hearts of therapists and counselors, our churches often find themselves teaching their members how to be mouths and not how to be ears. This class will be focused on teaching the skills of active listening and reflection as a way of helping hurting people, and as a way of influencing those around in positive ways.
- Worship Planning (Sunday mornings in the summer)
This class series will help teens understand and learn the process of thinking through and moving people in corporate worship. Teens will be challenged to develop worship outlines that will be used on Wednesday nights during the summer.
- Worship Development (Wednesday nights in the summer)
This class will be the platform for the Worship Planning class. Teens in the Ministers and Disciples class will come and participate in corporate worship services prepared by the Apostle's class on Sunday mornings.
2010-2011 - World Religions (Sunday mornings in the fall)
This class, only offered to juniors and seniors, will take a look at other world religions such as Buddhism and Islam, to explore Christian responses to these other faiths. - Theology (Wednesday nights in the fall)
This course will be a discussion course that will help teens better understand how their biblical knowledge and life experiences influence the way they view the world around them. It will challenge their thinking and push them to view the world through the lens of theology. - Service (Sunday mornings in the winter)
This series will be focused on helping teens see and join in the service opportunities that God has placed before them. We hope that his class will help teens learn to see God at work and hear his call for them. - Wisdom Literature (Wednesday nights in the winter)
This will be a more in-depth look at a couple of the OT books (Proverbs and Ecclesiastes). The focus will be on understanding some of the wise sayings, and being able to articulate them and use them in modern situations. - Connecting Stories (Sunday mornings in the spring)
This class is designed to help mature studens see and hear Christ speaking through those around them. Using those thoughts and sights, hopefully teens will be able to articulate Christ's influence in others back to them as they interact with those whom they are in contact with. - GOD AND MONEY(Wednesday nights in the spring) This class seeks to help teens learn how to face the mounting pressure of cultures influence on money. Every day, teens are assaulted with media telling them that buying more will make them feel better and more valuable. Our world is focused on throwing God's money at things that don't matter and then not having enough of it to give to things that do. Using the Curriculum written by Dave Ramsey: Generation Change, we will seek to help teens rethink they way they think about money.
- Theological Comprehension (Sunday mornings in the summer)
This class will be designed to help teens learn to read the Bible for all it is worth. They will learn the tools available to help them understand the backdrop for stories, as well as the tools to discover the meanings of words. They will also be challenged to become better at reading the Bible out loud as a story instead of a text book. - Ministry History (Wednesday nights in the summer)
Most teens are unaware of the true origins and intent of most of the formal ministries that we Christians work in and participate in today. This class will shed light on the development of many of today's ministry offices and what goes on in them.
